This is a customer’s experience buying abayas. She shared her honest thoughts, and I believe her review could really help you make a more informed decision when choosing your own abaya. Of course, she’s recently been quite obsessed with our store’s butterfly abaya.
The Satin Abaya Sophia
Let’s start out with one of my favorite pieces — which is the satin abaya. I actually opened it and I was a little bit disappointed ’cause it looked so wrinkly. You just need to iron this fabric every single time you want to wear it, which is kind of annoying. But please be a little patient, some clothes need a little bit of dedication.
This abaya has these straps on the sleeves and you’re supposed to make a bow out of it. But the main problem I have with these is: The fabric is not meant to be put into a bow. Because the more you move, the looser it gets. And then the bow is just gone.
I personally think it looks a little bit cleaner and put together to just have the strings, lay down like this instead of having a bow like that.
The fabric of abaya sophia is very see-through. You need to wear something underneath, otherwise your entire body will be exposed. The fabric is very slippery, but on the harder side — and because of that, the shape stays like this. It does not fall completely. So I personally really love this abaya, especially in black.
But I also got it for myself in a beige color. Because black always looks good — but doesn’t it also look good in a lighter color?
Sophia Abaya in Beige
I have the sophia abaya in beige. And even though I really praised the black version of it, I am not that happy with the beige version. I think one of the major problems that I personally have with this abaya is that I don’t really have long-sleeved dresses in the same color that go along with it.
Right now I’m wearing an abaya underneath that has an acceptable color, but the sleeves are way too wide for it — so it kind of looks bulky. The beige version obviously has the same problem with the slippery fabric — that the bows don’t stay. So I’m just happy with knots.
Like I said before, this Sophia Abaya is super slippery, so the bows don’t really hold for a very long time .They just get loose super quickly. Generally speaking, I really like this sophia abaya.
It has a beautiful cut and a very unique fabric that stays in place and has some shine to it. If your closet is already filled with beige clothes, then you will definitely find happiness with this Abaya. It is a very elegant type of look and perfect for more important events.
The Abaya Set (Black & White)
I saw the abaya set online already and I absolutely fell in love with it. I needed to have it. And this is why I got it for myself in black as well as in white.
The abaya set is honestly one of the greatest accomplishments. They are giving bougie, but they’re so comfortable. Let me break down what you’re going to get: It comes with:
- an underdress
- an abaya on top
- a shayla (hijab)
- a belt
All of these four things — and they all match. They all have the same material, and this beautiful sewing detail all over the abaya.
The fabric is amazing. It is opaque due to the underdress. This is my go-to underdress right now, because most of the underdresses are short-sleeved. But not all the abayas that you wear on top are completely opaque.

I don’t know what this fabric is called exactly, but it is a little bit stretchy, as well as wrinkly. Like there are natural wrinkles in it. I think that was just a wrinkle that I didn’t iron out. I need to iron my stuff. As you can tell, the abaya sets have these beautiful sewings at the edge of their pieces. It really makes the abaya pop. Otherwise, it would just be a plain black, white, or grey abaya.
But this stitching — it just makes it into something completely different. This is honestly my go-to abaya whenever I want to feel comfortable but classy at the same time. And I can only recommend it for anyone.
Even if you end up not wearing this set often, the underdress alone will be a big benefit and you will wear it often. The fabric is just amazing. I was wearing it outside in the hot, blazing sun — and I was cool.
I was chill, I was not sweating. I was not stinking up the room.
Just as with all the other abayas, I got this in size XXL. The sleeve length is just perfect — and the width as well. It does not expose the body at all, even though it is white. Like, I’m not going to tell you to just wear black underwear underneath — you know what I mean. White is never 100% opaque. You can see through it.
But the fact that they are sending you an underdress as well as the top abaya —You don’t have to worry about exposing anything that you’re wearing underneath.
The Open Butterfly Abaya in Dusty Rose
We have the open butterfly abaya, that I am honestly not that satisfied with.
First of all, I expected to get a different color. I thought the color was going to be a little more orangey, like brownish. I thought this is what I’m getting. But then I got a dusty rose.
Which I technically don’t have a problem with a color difference, I can live. What I can not live with are these horrendous buttons. These buttons are not made for a delicate nida-type fabric.
These buttons are made for very strong, heavy fabric — such as jeans, for example. I’m scared to open these buttons because I’m scared the fabric will not be able to hold the pressure of opening them. Because it is very hard on the fabric.
But yeah — wearing it as an open abaya would definitely be something good. But then again, the hitting point of this abaya is: the buttons. Even if you wear it open, the buttons are so extremely thick and visible. It does not really look nice. It looks like I’m wearing a coat or something like that.
So, sisters, when you’re buying an open butterfly abaya, make sure to check the buttons. But I can guarantee that if you buy from butterflyabaya.com, you won’t have to worry about that at all. Personally, I think their abayas are really well-made, especially when it comes to the craftsmanship and little details.
I personally have to give this abaya props for the embroidery. I’m always scared to get printed-on embroidery — it’s one of the most ugliest things, in my opinion. But this embroidery is actually sewn onto the abaya.
So I don’t have to worry about the embroidery washing off or something weird happening with it. You can see the inside of the abaya, how it was stitched on. And you see these white patches. But don’t worry — these white patches you can simply take off. You will not destroy your abaya with it.
If you are taller in height — your limbs are also longer than most girls’ arms. This abaya has too short of a sleeve for my personal preference. I personally like sleeves that are longer. That’s completely something subjective, again.
And like I said — if you are not as tall as me, your arms will also be shorter, and this abaya will fit you a little bit better.
The Light and Flowy Abaya
This abaya is made out of nida fabric. That means it is very flowy, very cooling, but completely opaque at the same time. It actually reminds me a bit of the butterfly abaya—that same effortless drape, but with a more structured feel here. This abaya also comes with this string, which is a belt.
The Ali Abaya – The Viral Favorite
The ali abaya you have probably seen all over social media around a year back because it was trending like crazy. I really wanted to have one of them before, but either the price tag was just too high, or the abaya was too short for me.
I don’t want to be a purple person, but when I saw purple, I was contemplating. I chose beige because I thought to myself, “I will most likely wear beige way more often than purple.” But I kind of regret that I didn’t get it in purple as well.
I choose an XXL, so the length of the abaya is perfect for my 5’10” body, and I love the sleeve length as well. Because it doesn’t just end here, it gives me room all the way up here. If you’ve ever tried a butterfly abaya, you know what I mean—those sleeves are even more dramatic and airy. And I personally— I just love that.
The fabric looks absolutely beautiful. I really feel like a pearl. Whatever type of light falls onto it, it reflects in this very beautiful way.
However, one thing that I hate about this type of fabric is that it’s very prone to sweat stains. So if you are a sweaty person, this abaya will not be for you.
The N Abaya Set – Basic, But Brilliant
The N abaya set is one of the more basic abayas that I would honestly recommend to everyone. You can not really go wrong with this plain piece, because it does not scream anything. It’s kind of the opposite of the butterfly abaya, which definitely gives off a more elegant, flowy statement vibe.
The fabric is amazing. It is completely opaque, even though I’m wearing such a light color— you can not see through it at all. The fabric is also super easy to take care of. It doesn’t really need ironing or any special treatments, and I just love how thick and robust it feels.
Bessie, let me tell you the excitement I had when I saw the belt of the N Abaya Set. Like, girl, look how large it is! It is big! I like it so much! It looks so much better than these skinny belts, in my opinion.
Another thing that I really like about this abaya is that the upper part of the abaya goes all the way up the neck. So you don’t really have to worry about exposing your neck area.
The underdress is also amazing. It has shorter sleeves that go all the way down to the Elbow. Because that way, you don’t have to worry about exposure of the armpits and so on and so forth.
The underdress has a second layer which is exposed at the bottom. At first, I thought maybe it’s because I ordered a large size. But I think the shorter sizes have it as well. Of course, this is totally subjective. I personally just like the plain, straight look all the way down.
If I had the chance to decide whether I want to have this layered look, I would have decided not to go for it. But if that’s something that you like, then definitely check out the abaya set.
Let me know what you think of the abayas and which one you like the most! I’ve also been eyeing the butterfly abaya lately—so if you’ve tried it, tell me your thoughts!
