I also wear a lot of smart casual clothes. I really like oversized t-shirts — some of them are from the men’s section. I like boyfriend jeans, sneakers, and oversized jackets. And of course, I pair them with jersey hijabs.

And then I have a hijabi princess look, which I absolutely love! I don’t wear it as much, but this is how I feel when I wear maxi dresses and chiffon hijab.
Building a Modest Wardrobe Over Time
It took me about 10 years to build up my current wardrobe. There are some great modest clothing brands out there. Absolutely love their pieces! My recent favorite is the butterfly abaya — I already have several in different colors in my wardrobe. But a lot of the times, I would simply have to think outside of the box when I was shopping.
Choosing Clothes That Last
I like to purchase clothes that would last for years to come. So I would look up things like shirt dresses or boyfriend jeans. Or I would go into my husband’s t-shirts and take them and see if they can work for me as well.
But the majority of my recent wardrobe I purchased from Turkey — and Turkey is a modest fashion hub. There are just so many modest pieces out there in Turkey. I also highly recommend the store butterflyabaya.com because their clothing is of great quality.
The Value of Modesty-Focused Brands
And what I’ve noticed is that when you purchase from a modesty-focused brand, you will always end up with wonderful pieces that work 100% of the time. And when you purchase modest pieces from a brand that is not specifically creating clothes for modesty-loving women, you’ll sometimes have to deal with — you know — see-through fabrics, or slits, or other things.
Being seven years into my hijab journey, and being 28 right now, I just don’t want to deal with clothes that were not built specifically for me. I don’t want to deal with immoral pieces. I don’t want to try to come up with makeshift solutions to make the pieces more modest.
